Kurt Wiesen

Principal Engineer

Kurt is a principal engineer at Syght, where he leads the optical design and analysis effort.

Prior to joining Syght, Kurt has over 30 years experience in the data storage industry working in the design of heads and the integration of heads and media into hard disk drives. His focus for many years was recording physics where he successfully occupied the space between advanced R&D and product development. This included all aspects of spinstand testing and data analysis as well as recording system modeling. Later in his career he worked closely with servo engineers to invent a new method for optimizing track pitch.

Kurt hails from western Pennsylvania and received degrees in Physics and Electrical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University. His Ph.D. thesis dealt with the modeling and measurement of magnetic recording media. He currently lives in Lyons, Colorado and enjoys collecting jazz records and playing golf.
