Alexander Sage

Senior Machine Learning Engineer

From a degree in optical physics to years of experience in machine learning across multiple sectors Sage has been preparing for Syght since before it was even an idea.

He received his master’s in physics from UCONN to understand the optical properties of mm wave emission, transmission, and reflection. This foundation allows him to understand the projects that the rest of the team are working on with more clarity and provides a strong foundation of intuition for how the device will be used. In his first position out of college he took a solo project at the FDA from ideation to a functional prototype by teaching himself how to build a workflow based web application. The project went on to win two development awards as the team grew, and Sage continued to facilitate communication with the skills he learned from a Scrum Master certification.

Working on a startup he co-founded to bring automation and robotics to the hydroponics industry, Sage learned a lot of difficult lessons about deploying to Arduino systems and more generally how to pivot away from a failed idea. Throughout all the different sectors he has worked in he has acquired years of machine learning experience on a variety of projects and infrastructure environments. This broad experience spanning physics, IoT, machine learning, computational programming, GUI development, leadership, and startup environments was just the experience he needed to be ready to work for Syght.

Sage moved to CO to be able to hike the mountains and regularly enjoys that dream. As a pacifist he hopes that this technology will reduce gun violence and open the door for problems solved through therapy and rehabilitation.
