Syght, Inc. has been awarded a total of $40,000 as a winning entry through two rounds of competition for the U.S. Army’s xTechDetect competition for innovative solutions designed for Counter-Improvised Explosive Devices (C-IEDs) applications. 

The competition was sponsored by The Office of the United States Assistant Secretary of the Army for Acquisition, Logistics, and Technology (ASA(ALT)), U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command (DEVCOM), U.S. Army DEVCOM Forward Elements (DEVCOM-Americas, Atlantic, Pacific), U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC), U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command Technical Center (SMDTC), U.S. Army Counter Explosive Hazards Center (CEHC), and U.S. Office of Naval Research Global (ONR-G) 

xTechDetect had three topic areas which competing companies could submit solutions for. “Topic 2” focused on the need for a Low-Cost Millimeter Wave Imager, highlighting the challenge that current generation of imagers were often either too large or too expensive for wide-spread use. After being selected as one of only twelve finalists from Part 1 of the competition which required a submission of a concept white paper, the Syght team “pitched” to a group of judges from sponsoring organizations on the merits of a passive millimeter wave imaging system that substantially improved on existing industry-leading SWaP-C parameters. The Syght team also noted potential dual-use cases based on inputs from various civilian customers. 

Commenting on the process, Syght’s Chief Executive Officer, Kevin Magenis said, “We were honored to have had the opportunity to participate in xTechDetect, and were enthused with the platform it provided to interact with key decision members on ways to protect U.S. Army personnel when deployed on missions.
